In the chant, Ia Wa’a Nui, the second line is “ia wa’a kialoa”, which means “that long canoe”. For the artist, this chant evokes a sense of infinite connection to every other paddler throughout the long history of the outrigger canoe, each embracing the traditions of the original voyager.
As paddlers, we know that golden sunrises and sunsets bring an additional richness to our experience in the canoe. Running through the feeling of warmth and safety in the golden light is the wild and untamed spirit of the ocean; that rich blue source of life and wisdom that will always be calling the adventurous from the land to their true home.
